Wrasslin’. Again.

March 25, 2011

So lately (after reading Chris Jericho’s new book) I’ve become enamored with wrestling all over again.  So in honor of that, here are my top favorite tag teams of all time.

1) Doom (Ron Simmons and Butch Reed)- Just two badass black dudes.  I remember when we were kids my brother really liked them too but I don’t know if he would remember that now.

2) Edge and Christian- Not only two of the funniest heel characters ever but they (along with the Hardy Boys and the Dudley Boys) revolutionized the ladder match when it was reborn as the Tables, Ladders and Chairs match.

3) The Road Warriors (Animal and Hawk)- The face paint. The shoulder pads.  The Doomsday Device.  “Ohhhh, what a rush!”.  The total package.

4) The Bushwhackers (Butch and Luke)- A really silly gimmick that made me laugh every time.

5) The Rockers (Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty)- The two high flying guys who made every match they were in exciting to watch.

Worth Mentioning: The Hart Foundation, The British Bulldogs, The Hardy Boys, The Dudley Boys, Cactus Jack and Mikey Whipwreck, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard, The Rock N’ Sock Connection, The Holly Cousins, The New Age Outlaws, Goldust and Booker T, Harlem Heat, Raven and Saturn, Demolition, The Natural Disasters, The Headshrinkers, Tony Atlas and Rocky Johnson, Danny Doring and Roadkill, Kaientai, Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff, Money Inc., Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett, The Quebeccers, The Godwinns.

March 24, 2011

In honor of today’s wrestling-themed comic, I decided to list my favorite wrestling finishers of all time.

1- The Canadian Destroyer (Petey Williams)- I had to watch it in slow motion a ton of times. It’s amazing to behold. I guess ‘Canadian Destroyer’ was easier to remember than ‘Forward Somersault Jumping Piledriver’

2- The Stone Cold Stunner (Stone Cold Steve Austin)- Probably because it’s so quick and you never know WHO is going to get hit with it. Austin even hit the stunner on Santa Claus.

3- The Razor’s Edge (Razor Ramon)- The actual guy was a tool but the Razor’s Edge (renamed the Outsider’s Edge in WCW) looked like a crucifixion.  Sweet looking move.

4- The Van Terminator (Rob Van Dam)- A sitting missle drop kick from the top rope all the way to the other ringpost.  Pretty sweet.

5- The Acid Drop/The Dudley Dog (Spike Dudley)- The Acid Drop in ECW became The Dudley Dog in WWE.  Just fun to watch little Spike execute this move on big guys.

Grand Moffat

March 23, 2011

I recently watched the mini-episodes of Doctor Who “Time” and “Space” which were that show’s yearly contribution to the ‘Red Nose’ charity special.  Clocking in at just under ten minutes total, these episodes are perfect proof of just how much of a genius writer/show runner Stephen Moffat is.  It had everything you want from a Doctor Who episode, a witty Doctor, mind twisting space/time paradoxes and, of course, the uber-sexy Amy Pond.  Loved it.

Chuck Idea

March 22, 2011

The new episode of Chuck had me thinking.  Chuck and Morgan were interviewing new Intersect candidates and asked one of them who the greatest graphic novel creator was. So here are my top answers.

1) Alan Moore- League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Watchmen, V For Vendetta

2) Grant Morrison- The Invisibles, X-Men, Final Crisis

3) Brian K. Vaughn- Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina

4) Robert Kirkman- The Walking Dead, Invincible

5) Garth Ennis- Preacher, The Boys, Jennifer Blood, The Authority, The Punisher

Desert Island

March 21, 2011

My top 5,all time, desert island CD’s (assuming that the island had electricity and a CD player). Not counting greatest hits albums, because that takes away from the concept of identifying albums you think are really good.

– R.E.M.- “Automatic For The People”- It was my favorite album the day I first heard it and it remains so to this day.

– Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson- “Rattlin’ Bones”- While I would settle on any Kasey Chambers album for the desert island, I’d have to pick this one as my favorite.

– The Beatles- “Abbey Road”- Again, my favorite album by a band with tons of great albums.

– Veruca Salt- “Eight Arms To Hold You”- The band broke up and it was sad. But this album stands as a monument to their work. Like all the albums on this list, there isn’t a single song I this album that I don’t like.

– The Black Crowes- “Southern Harmony and Musical Companion”- A good band and their absolute best work.
